So, let’s jump right into it and set the record straight on abs and how you can sculpt them. Most people think that they can do 1,000 crunches over night and then BOOM, they’ll get abs. Sorry to burst your bubble, but that is 100% false. For 90% of you out there, doing crunches, situps, or ab machines will NOT get you that much desired six pack. Truth be told, you already HAVE abs. Everyone does. The real problem is that your abs are hidden. To see a visible 6-pack you have to remove the fat that is covering your abs. Doing ab exercises will NOT, I repeat, WILL NOT, remove this fat, only eating less and burning off calories will get rid of the fat. Once again, to get 6-pack abs you need to eat less and do more cardio! Period! .

You’ve probably logged onto Youtube and seen a few of these jacked up dudes doing ab workouts where some ripped 20 year old bangs out every ab exercise in the world back to back without any rest and afterwards claims that’s what it takes to look like him – sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that’s complete and utter BS. It’s true that these long and grueling marathon ab workouts will give you strong abs, but they are an absolute waste of time if you are trying to get that shredded visible 6-pack. If you want that highly sought after six pack you have to shed the fat covering your abs..period. Part of people’s confusion is that they mistakenly believe that ab exercises equate to cardiovascular exercise and as a result can burn off fat, once again, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s not! To burn off fat you need to elevate your heart rate to the point where it reaches the weight loss zone, and to do that you need to use large muscles strenuously like using your legs in running or cycling on a bike. The abs are a very small muscle and there’s not an ab machine out there that can elevate your heart rate sufficiently enough to lose weight. 

So why do abdominal exercises?

Are we saying that ab exercises are complete waste of time? Absolutely not. All I’m saying is that if you want to attain washboard abs like Pat’s (the guy in the pic), you have to reduce  your overall body fat by eating less and doing daily cardiovascular exercise. Ab exercises are very important but not necessary for getting a washboard stomach.
